Making real soap is both a science and an art that combines oils and lye through a chemical process called saponification. In this beginner-friendly class, students will learn the basics of safely working with sodium hydroxide (lye), choosing nourishing oils and butters, and creating handmade soap from scratch using the cold process method. We will cover important safety practices, how to measure ingredients accurately, and the role each oil plays in the final soap bar’s hardness, lather, and moisturizing qualities. By the end of the class, students will understand the foundational steps of soapmaking and leave inspired to confidently begin creating their own natural handmade soaps at home.
